Every October, the world turns pink to highlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Social media floods with pink ribbons, brands roll out special edition products, and awareness campaigns gain momentum. But for those impacted by breast cancer, whether they’ve been diagnosed themselves, have a loved one who has, or work in research or care, the experience lasts well beyond one month a year.
The good news? You don’t have to wait for October to make a difference. There are meaningful, impactful ways to support breast cancer charities, initiatives, and those directly affected by the disease all year long.
Become a Monthly Donor
One of the most effective ways to help breast cancer organizations is by setting up recurring donations. Monthly giving provides charities like CBCN with a reliable source of funding, allowing us to plan long-term projects, provide consistent patient education and advocacy, and maintain year-round outreach efforts. Even a small monthly gift can have a big impact over time.
CBCN initiated its Champions of Care monthly giving program for supporters who wish to make an ongoing investment. Monthly giving helps ensure secure and stable funding for the projects and resources people count on throughout the year.
Participate in Local or Virtual Fundraisers
From races and yoga classes to bake sales and online campaigns, fundraising events take place throughout the year. These initiatives are not only a great way to raise money, but they also help spread awareness within your community.
Ottawa’s Tamarack Race Weekend taking place over the 24-25 of May 2025 is a great example. CBCN is an official beneficiary in their Desjardins Charity Challenge. You can register to run or walk in one of their races, or you can raise funds for CBCN independently if you’re unable to participate in person. You can also organize your own event to benefit CBCN in a way that fits your interests.
Volunteer Your Time or Skills
Donating your time can be just as valuable as donating money. Whether it’s helping at a community event, delivering meals to patients, or offering your professional skills (like graphic design, research, or in an advisory capacity), there are many ways to get involved.
CBCN’s Student Volunteer Matching Program engages students and recent graduates who share CBCN’s mission of voicing the views and concerns of breast cancer patients. These volunteers are matched with projects in their area of expertise or interest.
And if you're not a student but still want to get involved, we welcome your experience. Fill out our patient engagement application to be notified about opportunities that align with your interests and the skills you'd like to share.
Raise Awareness Through Your Platform
Whether you have a large social following or a tight-knit group of friends, your voice matters. Share educational resources, personal stories, or research opportunities throughout the year—not just during awareness month. Normalizing year-round conversations about breast cancer helps break stigma, encourages early detection, and fosters community support.
CBCN promotes the stories and lived experiences of people with breast cancer through this very blog. Consider sharing your story with us and the breast cancer community to bring awareness to important topics, reflect on what you’ve learned along your journey, or offer insights into aspects of your diagnosis.
Every Month Matters
Breast cancer doesn’t follow a calendar, and support shouldn’t either. Whether through financial contributions, volunteering, or simply sharing helpful resources, your efforts can make a real, lasting difference. So, let’s move beyond the pink ribbon and inspire action all year long—because those affected by breast cancer, along with their families and caregivers, need support every single day.
