What breast cancer patients need to know about private insurance 

A breast cancer diagnosis not only impacts your physical health, but also your financial health. While many drugs are covered through our public health care system, there are usually medications that are prescribed to help manage the side effects of treatment that aren’t covered publicly. Sometimes, the actual cancer drugs aren’t even covered publicly, which leaves patients having to cover the cost themselves.

If you’re one of the 70% of Canadians who have private insurance coverage, then you’ll know that this can be an integral part of affording the medications you need while going through breast cancer treatments. However, understanding the type of coverage you have, or understanding how to file an appeal if a claim has been denied is often an aspect that can be challenging to navigate.

We’ve teamed up with the OmbudService for Life & Health Insurance to host a webinar about accessing and navigating your private insurance and also to learn about the appeals process.

This one-hour online information session is free to anyone interested in better understanding their private insurance and the appeals process; this session will be geared towards patients and families.
