A Researcher Answers Your Questions about Hereditary Breast Cancer: a Q&E Session

Join us for a Q&E Session on hereditary breast cancer with Dr. Kelly Metcalfe, a leading researcher in cancer genetics and prevention. The conversation will explore inherited cancer risk, genetic testing, and the latest research shaping personalized strategies for prevention and treatment.

Expert Speaker: Dr. Kelly Metcalfe is a Professor and the Associate Dean of Research at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing and the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Surgery, at the University of Toronto and a Senior Scientist at the Women’s College Research Institute. Dr. Metcalfe’s research focuses on the prevention and treatment of breast and ovarian cancer in high-risk women, most specifically those with a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation. She has led international studies resulting in seminal research papers on the topic of treatment of BRCA-associated breast cancer. Dr. Metcalfe is using those research findings to test new models of care to ensure that women have access to genetic testing at the time of cancer diagnosis to make informed decisions about treatments.

A breast cancer diagnosis comes with so many questions and there never seems to be enough time at appointments to have some of these questions answered. To help address this, the Canadian Breast Cancer Network hosts regular Q&E: Questions and Experts sessions. In this series, a variety of experts, including oncologists, genetic counsellors, social workers, and many more, will spend the entire virtual session answering your questions on various topics.
