Hereditary Breast Cancer Syndrome Factsheet

Hereditary breast cancer is linked to specific gene variants (also known as mutations) that can significantly increase the risk of developing breast and other types of cancer. The Canadian Breast Cancer Network (CBCN) has developed a factsheet, Hereditary Breast Cancer Syndrome: A guide for patients and their families, to provide essential information on these genetic factors, helping individuals understand their personal and familial cancer risks. It outlines the importance of genetic testing, how hereditary cancer genes are passed through families, and the steps to take if a genetic variant is discovered.

Developed in collaboration with Invitae and reviewed by Canadian genetic counsellors, this factsheet also includes important questions for individuals to discuss with their doctors, facilitating informed decisions about genetic testing and personalized cancer screening and care.
